"I am writing to say how wonderful the picture is - you have caught them both to perfection! Thank you so much for all your care and attention in creating what is a very lively representation...your drawing now has pride of place in our lounge!"

(Dr Ian Wotherspoon, Scotland)

Dog Portraits can be head and shoulder studies on a plain background, or more eleborate full body works with scenic backdrops. I also undertake group portraits of dogs.

If you look to the left you'll see an example of two cocker spaniels painted in full body with background detail. Here's the original photo that I was sent:-

The owner specifically asked for the dogs be depicted in their walking area. To give a more pleasing composition, I created a horizon line with hills and blue sky in the distance. Read more here about how to order a dog portrait.

Photo of Barney's body

In this portrait I worked from two photos, combining the head and from one and the body from another. The customer also requested a snow scene as a background to the portrait.

Here's the customers comments on receiving the work:-

"Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I've just collected barney's portrait from the post office and I've not stopped crying yet.

It's amazing and I love it. You've captured him better than I ever thought you would. It's like looking at HIM. I can even see the shine on his fur between the top of his head and his eyes that was my favourite place to stroke him. The swirled part of the white on his chest is perfect.

Thank you so much. You're services are worth every single penny and I would recommend you to absolutely anyone.

I just can't express how bowled over I am"

(Debbie Mecham, Cambridgeshire)

With all my animal portraits I use the finest quality art materials - Stabilo pastel pencils (for detailing), Rowney soft pastels (for blending) working on Canson fine art paper.
